Life’s Journey, Again

I suspect that I have spoken about this before. I guess I have. But it never ceases to amaze me, hence I keep reflecting on it. And more so during this pandemic. Especially since it’s turning out to be more of a marathon than a sprint. We haven’t been able to wish it away. Those who hid their head in the sand are bringing it up for air, to find that nothing has changed. This is the critical time to encourage ourselves in the Lord and get ready for the long haul. So, this brings me back to the journey of life.

This time, I am focusing on distance. When God called Abraham to follow Him, Abraham was not told whether the land was in a far country or just nearby. All he got was an instruction to follow. And he followed. He followed till he died. So did Isaac and Jacob (Israel). And the generations after them. Until Joshua brought the children of Israel and Joseph’s bones into the Promised Land, hundreds of years later.

We don’t have any idea how long the journey of our lives will last. All we are sure of is that at the appointed time, it will all end. Until then, He expects us to live our best life, using whatever we have in our hands or in our lives, to the best of our ability, to serve God, and to serve humanity. Sometimes we enjoy our lives, sometimes not. Whatever the case, we keep keeping on, hoping for pleasurable days to last longer and for unpleasant days to pass quickly.

We might not see the full manifestation of God’s promises to us here on earth, and we might even find it difficult to understand this pandemic. It doesn’t change the fact that God is in charge and still in control. While not disobeying government and safety rules, let us keep pushing our purpose and stay positive.

Despite the pandemic, and inside the pandemic, God’s plans for our lives are still being unfolded. The pandemic cannot stop Him, because He had it built in all along. We are the ones being surprised by the siege and the length of its stay. We want it gone like yesterday. We feel the pain and discomfort it is inflicting on people, the deaths, the fear, the disruption of normal life. But we now realize that there is no shortcut to it.

Let us remain encouraged and gird ourselves with the truth of God’s word. He will never leave us or forsake us. He is with us, even through this season, perfecting His plans for our lives and ensuring that His will is being done on the earth, as it is in heaven. When we look to Him, He places us and positions us correctly, and aligns us with what He is doing on the earth and in our lives. We have no control over the events that are unfolding, but we have access to the Almighty One Who has everything under His hands.

Our best response now is to seek Him and seek to know His will for us amid everything. What would He have us do? Where would He have us go? Can we key into the online nature of things and achieve some things we never thought we could? How does remote work make life easier for us? How can we make the best use of its advantages? What else is possible in this season?

Instead of sitting idly, waiting for the pandemic to pass, maybe we should engage ourselves mentally, developing fresh ideas, and making innovative inventions. If that is not your thing, then maybe you could start reading. Those books that you always felt you would read one day. Or you could write. Start that story that has always been on your mind. Do some research. Keep your mind active.

You see, the pandemic will pass when it will. We may have no control over its timing. But let us use this time wisely and optimally so we will not have regrets later, wondering what we did with so much free time! At least three months have passed already! We are ending June and entering the second half of the year. You don’t want to throw an entire year away watching the pandemic. If you are well and of sound mind, discard your fear and lethargy and jump into the fray. Ideas are being birthed, monies are being made and life is being lived, even in this pandemic. Don’t get left behind. This is also part of your life. It is part of your time on earth. Don’t waste it!

What are you going to do today? “…Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” Gen. 12:1 NKJV

Get going!
